Fifty

A few months ago, I recall a certain book trending on twitter. The title was pretty interesting and reminded me of the book-turned-movie, 500 Days of Summer. I really thought that book was about a very, very long summer -- but it obviously wasn't  I like how some authors come up with pretty witty book titles -- titles that may mean like this but it means something else, then you’d be like ‘Ohhh, I get it.’

Anyway, the title of the book that trended was none another than Fifty Shades of Grey.

That weekend, my eldest cousin -- she’s 22 -- approached me and told me about the book. “That’s what I’m reading right now,” she whispered to me. Our aunt who knew about a lot of things was nearby sitting and watching TV. “Fifty Shades? I heard it’s a good book,” I lied, in order to keep the conversation going. “Don’t you read that. It’s not good for you,” my aunt butted in and my cousin’s eyes widened, signalling me to stop talking about it. “What…? It’s not that I’ve read it. I just heard about it, that’s all,” I explained, and my cousin smirked. She even showed me the pdf file of the trilogy on her iPhone, and I eventually lost interest.

The Fifty Shades rave didn't stop from there. My classmates started talking about it, how dreamy Christian Grey was and all that. That made me want to know about the book. I decided to google it. I am known as that girl who googles things she doesn’t know about. Isn’t that Google’s purpose anyway?

Going back, I found out that the author, EL James, wrote two more sequels, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed respectively. It was highly noted that it was erotic, and being a teenager who knows too much for her age, I kinda didn’t want to read it.

I think that this trilogy might be disturbing for me (BDSM, anyone?).  I plan on reading it because my friends are so engrossed to it, and I'm feeling left out. Curiosity kills the cat, they say, but I don't mind. Curiosity leads us to roads -- big roads -- and in the future once we become successful we'll be thanking our curiosity for that.

I just hope that Fifty Shades of Grey wouldn't be too harsh or detailed. And I hope it wouldn't be too dirty. I also hope there will be less mentions on sex toys, because as comfortable I am with talking about sex, I still get shivers when I hear about sex toys. Finally, I hope Fifty Shades would exceed my expectations -- in a good way.

Getting to know you

It’s been a while since I last posted, since school’s starting to become stressful again. Fortunately, being a ‘computer addict’, I still find time to go online. So I decided to post for the sake of updating and keeping this blog up.

For this post, I want you all to get to know me better. I have a few facts about me that would probably make you know me the way I know myself. Like Sam from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I want people to like me for me, and not just for what they think of me.

Well, here are things about me, and I do hope you find me interesting. I’ll be doing things like this from time to time, because I kinda easily forget.

  1. I have this habit of googling a celebrity after I encounter them (movie, TV show, personal encounter, and the like). I scan through their wikipedia page (or fansite) and instantly check their personal lives. This is weird, but I really want the people I adore to be happy in real life, and not just on tv or on the big screens.
  2. I easily get attached. Materialistically speaking or not, I get attached. If I lose the person or thing I’m starting to get attached to, I’d get sad.
  3. I get an adrenaline rush whenever I speak in front of people. I’ve experienced this during a performance task in Public Speaking (English Elective) and a contest a year ago.
  4. And whenever I speak in front of people, I speak with my American accent. I don’t know if it’s an American accent, but most of my audience tell me I’ve got an accent when I talk.
  5. I started wearing glasses at age 3. It was hereditary -- got it from my mum.
  6. I traced my roots a few months back, and it showed that I wasn’t 100% Filipino. I have traces of Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, and French. And I’ve realised that Filipino is a mixed race, so I guess that makes me super hybrid?
  7. I am an anglophile. No, it wasn’t because of One Direction. It was kind of because of Harry Potter. I fancied their accents so much.
  8. Speaking of accents, I have the ability of mimicking accents. I can do British, Australian, and American accents. I am still trying to perfect my French and German accents.
  9. I always practice the way I speak, so I read articles on the front page of our newspaper out loud.
  10. I try not to care about what other people say about me, but when people I love criticise me or judge me, I end up getting too conscious.

Day 19 of 365

Your thoughts on your family

One thing’s for sure: my family is imperfect and I love it.

Basically, my relationship with my family kinda went downhill last year. I think puberty’s one of the million reasons why. I don’t regret it, because the fights… the arguments, and whatnots made me and my family stronger.

This topic is too personal for me to rave about. Sorry.

Up, up, here we go

This afternoon, me and my friends Kamille and Chesca were out and about in the school campus. Students were by the parking lot where the rides were for the annual school fair. I just didn’t feel the end of the day, because my classmates kept teasing me. I rarely get pissed off since I do the same to my classmates, but I was just so tired and I didn’t want to talk any longer.

Me and my friends went to the place at the side of the chapel, which was like a mirror and sink area. The area was open and I sat on the rocky bench in front of the mirror and sink thing, and I laid down. I looked up to the sky and focused it on a bit, and in about two minutes or less they were ‘moving.’ I really like seeing the sky ‘move’. I know that the sky doesn’t move, because it’s just the rotation and revolution of the Earth.

Anyway, as I hypnotised myself through staring into the open (aka the sky), I noticed that there were clouds sort of forming into people. It felt like a hallucination, even though I haven’t experienced a hallucination -- or maybe I think I haven’t but I’ve had. Creepy. These clouds forming were practically moving and going from here and there, mimicking a form of a human. I missed seeing shapes in the sky, the way I see shapes and random things, because the sky reminds me of the times we used to travel going to the province and back. It feels so peaceful and relaxing.

This is an effortless blog post. I just wanted to share how I feel about the endless sky. It feels great.

Day 18 of 365

Why you made your blog, why you still have it

I made a blog (I’m referring to the original one, my tumblr) because I wanted to vent and express myself without having anyone to babble about how my opinion sucks, or how my opinion on things doesn’t matter because I’m just a kid. I really hate being underestimated. I also made my blog to create memories so I could look back and see how much my writing (and my life) has improved for the past few days, weeks, months, or even years.

I still have my blog because I know that there will be a lot more exciting things to come in my life, and I would like to inspire other people with my journey.

Day 17 of 365

Your idol and why you look up to them

Can we please make that *idols?

Your idols and why you look up to them

Better. Here are my idols and reasons why I swoon over them, or perhaps adore them very much.

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson
I love Emma Watson sooooooo much! Like what I said, she’s my spirit animal and girl crush. I admire her and I’ve loved her since Harry Potter. She’s such a sweetheart and I think she’s very lovely. She’s simple and she isn’t controversially complicated. She’s just, bam, simple. What I love the most about her is how much of a darling she is -- it’s not that I know her personally or anything, but that’s how she seems. I want to meet her soon!

One Direction
I love them to bits and I have a soft spot for Zayn. The reason why I look up to them is because I love their music and they’re just so… perfect. I wanna meet them soon and I have a chance, because my aunt’s paying for me and my sister’s VIP tickets once they announce their concert! Scoooooore. They’re inspirational because of their stories and they are just so perfect.

Steve Jobs
Being an Apple fan and enthusiast since I got Snowy, my MacBook Pro, I’ve admired Steve Jobs. I’ve read his biography in 2011 and I was amazed by his passion to change the world, thus inspiring me to achieve something as big as his accomplishments. I really want to be like him someday and he’s my motivation whenever I feel like giving up on things.

The thought that this so-called phase of fangirling over these people -- these people you haven’t met but have known since forever -- will end soon haunts me. It’s like my whole life has revolved around them for the longest time. I love them to pieces. It fascinates me what it would be like if I’d have children in the future and they discover my time capsule (to be blogged about soon!) and they see photos, albums, and posters of these unfamiliar faces, then I’d tell them how Mummy discovered the people who inspired her.
