Don’t judge a book by its cover (1/3)

In life, there are things that become cliché, or perhaps overrated, mainly because people say it too much, do it too often, or simply use it more than necessary. After fourteen years of existence, it was only just this week that I’ve really known the meaning of the quote above. Literally.

In my previous post, I wrote about the most erotic trilogy to have ever been created on Earth so far -- how I’ve come to know it and how I’ve found it before reading it. Now I’m here in front of my laptop typing out a review of it. Fifty Shades of Grey is something unconventional -- beautifully conventional, because it’s not everyday you’d see an erotic book capture millions of hearts, most of which are of mums’, and sell like crazy. I support unconventional things -- good ones, because following the traditions of the people who came before us is allowing history to repeat itself, which I think is boring.

Going back, reading the first part was fun. I even told my cousin about it and she even offered me to receive PDFs of the last two books from her. I wholeheartedly accepted the offer.

Fifty Shades of Grey is far from what I expected. EL James sure did had limits. It was definitely a page-turner. I really wasn’t expecting to get hooked to it, mainly because I kept thinking it was a dirty book and it was sinful to read it. But then again, I learned that something becomes something when you think of it that way. In this case, if you think that Fifty Shades is just one, dirty, fucked-up book, then it’ll simply be just one, dirty, fucked-up book to you. I learned to change my perspective as I read the book. Of course, for a fourteen year old, curiosity was definitely a challenge. I was feeling new emotions as I read the book, but I countered the urge through having a break from reading, or distracting myself. Communicating to my body sexually is something I’d rather not do, because I think I’m a bit too young. And besides, I wouldn’t want to destroy the innocence left in me.

Anyway, the story was completely new. Reminded me of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight in some way, because Christian Grey was very mysterious at first. But obviously, this was different. This was better. It may be arousing, but the whole plot floored me. It was something different, which I thank the heavens for, because like what I said, I like different.

The ending disappointed me… but I remembered that there are two books left to read, so I smiled from ear to ear. Christian Grey + Anastasia Steele = ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡. They are now my OTP.

I now love Fifty Shades of Grey so, so much and I really do not know what to expect in Fifty Shades Darker. Well, technically, I’ve been spoiled… but I need to find out the ending myself. I really don’t like people narrating to me the story. It always seems different from the actual happening.
