Well, this week’s our school’s foundation week! Finally, it’s that time of the school year when everyone’s happy and excited. We had our Sportsfest opening last Monday, 28 January 2013 by attending Mass. It was funny, because the priest was like a black American when he talked during the homily.
In the afternoon, the cheer dance competition began. I loved how more united my batch was more than last year. I loved how our banner improved so much!
It’s actually a funny story, because the banner wasn’t really part of the plan in sophomore year. We needed a tarpaulin which was to be hung on the poles on top of the gymnasium, but unfortunately (more like thankfully) the student tasked to print the tarpaulin failed to do it, so my batch mates got yellow and black cloths and two sticks and started creating a banner that eventually became our ‘trademark’. Then one of our batch mates had connections to a kids’ party business, so we ordered many yellow balloons. Our batch pioneered these things, shall I say.
Our batch’s theme this year is Iron Man-inspired, which is sooooo cool! Pride, Honor, Glory is kind of like this year’s motto. I suggested we’d have a mascot, because everyone from our batch was expecting balloons and banners from the others, too. And the suggestion came to life when one of our batch mates wore an Iron Man costume and a cool Iron Man helmet!
Our batch’s muse, Rochelle Carlos! She didn’t win, but we were definitely proud of her. She’s a quiet person but it certainly didn’t show during the event!
Yellow-gold and red balloons… Holla!
Our super duper too-awesome-for-words banner! It was made of gold and red cloth, and my classmates cut and made it.
Another picture of our banner. Unfortunately I couldn’t find our mini-banners, which has Pride, Honor, and Glory written all over it respectively. Me and my friend glued Glory onto the banner, which is something I’m proud of!
Final rehearsal which was during break time. If it isn’t obvious, they all have bangs. They wanted to be really uniform, which I found adorable! Reminded me of the UP cheer dancers, because they had their heads shaved for last year’s cheer dance competition. Most of the cheerers hated their uniforms, because the letter J wasn’t in varsity style, and the color was dandelion/yellow and not gold, thus not matching their gold shoes. It was kind of frustrating, but all was forgiven when they performed!
Here’s this year’s cheer dance. I’m proud how far our batch has come. Talk about spectacular!
Did I mention that our batch took the trophy home? We finally won! We ranked second place last year, so bagging first place was really something!
By the way, here’s the video of last year’s cheer dance.
Judging from the two videos, you could really see how far we’ve come, not as a batch, but as individuals as well. We became more united, more positive, more energetic, and basically more fabulous.
The Sportsfest was fantastic, because it felt like we conquered the whole fest. Our cheer went something like, “J! *clap clap, clap clap* U! *clap clap, clap clap* N! *clap clap, clap clap* I-O-R-S!” and “Go Juniors! *clap clap, clap clap clap* (or *stomp clap, stomp stomp clap*)” We would lay our hands on our representatives, symbolising that we’re praying for them and that we’re there for them no matter what. Also, we would make the sign of the cross then point up to the heavens, recognising the Almighty One. It’s our way of showing that no matter what happens, win or lose, we will still praise Him for everything.
We were the basketball champions, and tug-o-war champions, too! We’ve been tug-o-war champions for three straight years, and we’re now aiming for a fourth year as we reach senior year. For the rubic’s cube competition, the juniors won.
Swimming and volleyball were the wins of the seniors, I mean, Queen Seniors (according to them; it’s like their theme). There was ultimate rivalry which faded in the later part of the Sportsfest. Freshmen and Juniors were allies, and the Sopho-rawrs were allies with the Queen Seniors.
Anyway, I loved how the Sportsfest went! Definitely unexpected, so thank you Lord! Tomorrow’s the start of our school fair, and the lucky ones (aka those with printers) will be wearing this tag:
I really love how cool my batch is.
